City Tour - Introduction to the colonial history

The tour begins with a visit to the Fortress of São Sebastião and the National Museum, where we will be introduced to the colonial history of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Next, we will drive to Sé Cathedral (Nossa Senhora da Graça Cathedral), a key landmark in the history of Catholicism in Africa.

We will then visit Independence Square, where the nation declared its independence from Portuguese colonial rule in 1975, and afterwards explore key colonial-era commercial houses in the city center*.

Before ending the tour with lunch, we will explore the city’s main open-air market, Bôbô Fôrro. During the tour, we can also assist you in shopping for local handicrafts.

The tour concludes with a traditional Santomean lunch**.
